Rapid Prototyping

Quick turnaround prototyping of polymer optics is accomplished using the Nanoform 200 single point diamond-turning machine. The Nanoform 200 is a two-axis, precision computer-controlled aspheric contouring machine which utilizes the latest advances in linear motor technology. The system also includes advanced aspheric programming and correcting software. This is linked through Qioptiq Polymer’s Form Talysurf-S6 PGI, a surface profiler of the highest accuracy.

The diamond-turning machine maintains accuracy at the "sub-micron" or "millionths of an inch" accuracy. Our Taylor-Hobson profilometer provides an accurate measurement of the diamond-turned surface; and is used to verify the surface for meeting specifications. This instrument is also used to interface with the diamond turning machine to compensate the program and make necessary surface corrections at the sub-micron level.
